Joseph Kay, M.D.
Dr. Kay became interested in caring for adults with congenital heart disease during his combined internal medicine and pediatric residency in the 1990’s when he realized there was a large void in providers specifically trained to understand their complex congenital cardiac issues. He is particularly interested in the difficult transition period for adolescents and young adults with congenital heart disease, dedicating his career to providing care of the individual physically and emotionally. Dr. Kay was named 5280 Magazine Best Doctor ACHD for the last 4 consecutive years, Community Health Champion 2011, and Outstanding Cardiology Faculty Award winner in 2011.
Stephania Bunka
Stephania is a tetralogy of Fallot owner who’s had two open heart surgeries and a number of other procedures, but still manages to jog a respectable 10k. She loves chatting up people and hearing their incredible stories. Stephania was born and raised in Canada where she had her first surgery, then immigrated to the US where the joys included learning about the for-profit medical system. She has known what it feels like to be health worry free for decades, and unable to sleep for the anxiety that comes with not knowing what your own heart is doing inside your chest. She is dedicated to learning and sharing knowledge about this disease, and is writing this book because it is needed.
